This seems to be a common theme amongst our flower-named beauties. In the myth of Narciussus, it's said that he was captivated by his own shimmering reflection, lingering so long and leisurely that he grew roots and petals and blossomed right into the very flower of his namesake. But now, watching Rose, I'm starting to think that was just a bit of a poetic metaphor for what really happened.
