The Perfect Agreement
Zoey Foxx’s heels can be heard as she hurries toward her landlord’s front door. The dazzling woman is two weeks late on rent, and Brad Newman, a man whose patience was as structured and unforgiving as his jawline, wasn't known for his leniency. When she walks through the door, she finds him exactly where she expected, sitting on his sofa as a silhouette of quiet frustration. As the sound of Zoey’s entrance fills the room, Brad doesn't offer a welcoming smile. His expression remains a mask of stony indifference while his eyes track her with the weary gaze of a man who had heard every excuse in the book. Zoey is in a vibrant orange dress that seems to catch and hold anyone’s attention. The raven-haired goddess moves toward him like a living flame and sinks onto the couch beside him. Even through his irritation, Brad’s gaze flickers, traitorously tracing the curve of the Latina bombshell’s body before he forces himself to look back at the wall. She launches into a flurry of apologies, her hands gesturing with practiced grace as she speaks of a new job and promises that the following months will see her payments arriving well in advance. Brad finally turns to her, but the heat in his eyes is exhaustion rather than affection. He made it clear that he had heard the same empty promises too many times before and that his trust in her word had completely evaporated. He lacked the patience for further stories and bluntly informed her that it was time for her to move out. However, Zoey knows that his anger is merely a wall, and she is an expert at finding the cracks in any foundation. Instead of arguing, she softens her approach, leaning in until her scent fills the narrow space between them. She reaches out, her fingers grazing his forearm in a silent plea for him to see her as something more than a tenant behind on her bills. Brad’s stony demeanor is now gone, and by the time they reach a new, more intimate agreement, the rent is the furthest thing from either of their minds.
